Prison Island (Tortoises Island)
One of the nearest islands to Stone Town, offers a unique chance to meet Zanzibar's oldest inhabitants - the giant tortoises -some as old as 150 years and weighing upto 300kg. Visitors are invited to feed them and can even stroke their necks (which they seem to enjoy). Also on the island is the recently restored ruins of the historic prison (built by the British around 1890) - now a pleasant restaurant.

This is a beautiful place for relaxing, with a nice sandy beach and an opportunity to snorkel around on the nearby corals and beautiful fish.

Safari Blue (Blue Day)
This is a fantastic day out in the Menai Bay Conservation area. We travel by road down to Fumba, 27km south of Zanzibar Town, where we are briefed on the day's activities and then we board our boats. First we head for the sandbank, a true "desert island". This is great for snorkeling among nice coral and uncountable, colorful, fish. We enjoy a choice of refreshing drinks before returning to our boat and continuing our trip, all the while, watching for dolphins. We arrive at the island of Kwale in time for a spectacular barbecued seafood lunch (vegetarian option), a variety of fresh fruit, and cold drinks according to your taste, finished off with special Safari Blue coffee.

After lunch we have some free time to relax on the beautiful beach, or follow an island path to see (and maybe climb) a huge baobab tree, before going to swim in the lagoon. We usually sail back to Fumba - powered only by the wind - enjoying the soft and sweet breezes.
